FOBISIA Primary A1 Games 2017

Shrewsbury International School

Principal’s Welcome

May I offer a warm welcome to all competitors, teachers, colleagues, parents, officials and guests to Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok to the FOBISIA Primary A1 Games 2017.  This event is one of the highlights of the junior sporting calendar for schools in South-East Asia and opens the eyes of young and emerging sports players to the thrill of competition.

The spirit of the FOBISIA Games embodies sportsmanship, fair play, appreciation of others’ talents – and also the keen edge of competition.  It is at these Games that reputations and rivalries start to emerge which then develop across the region in senior events and tournaments. I am sure that all participating students will return to the great schools of Asia invigorated in all respects by their encounters this week at the variety of exciting sporting venues in Bangkok.

Parents know too that the touchline and the bleachers foment the camaraderie and good humour of great friendships.  The FOBISIA Games allow all of us watching eagerly on the boundary to support and encourage the competitors, and to appreciate fully and with courtesy and respect at all times the generosity and commitment of our officials.

I am very appreciative of the hard work undertaken by coaches to prepare students for the technical and physical demands of this tournament.  Individual skills, team play, determination and stamina are nurtured in the build-up. The warmth displayed to each other by staff closely involved in PE and Sport from all schools is always striking, and I know that Shrewsbury International School and its staff under the inspiring leadership of Paul Rotheram will encourage this special companionship amongst coaches and teachers.

It is at the heart of the FOBISIA Games that all involved are able to win well and lose well especially when the stakes are high.
