Dear Parents,

It’s been another busy week in Year 1!

In Literacy we have been having fun getting into role and acting out parts of the Beegu story which is our focus text. This is really helping the children to practise their speaking and listening skills and develop their confidence to perform in front of an audience. The children have then used their ideas to write sentences about the thoughts and feelings of different characters.

In Maths we have been learning about arrays, which are a pictorial representation of numbers to help children eventually understand times tables. We are learning the difference between a column and a row and using our 2’s, 5’s and 10’s knowledge to help us interpret each array. We have also completed some work on doubling numbers.

In Science we have continued to learn about Materials and have been exploring their different properties. We have been learning to use words to describe them such as shiny, dull, rough, smooth, bendy, waterproof, absorbent, opaque, transparent.

In History we looked at the famous explorer Amelia Earhart and found out why she is famous. The children enjoyed learning about her adventures!

This half term in D&T we will be learning how to use a variety of tools safely in order to build a spaceship! This week we used a hand drill and sand paper.
