Friday 8th June 2018
The week seems to have buzzed by, with children increasingly excited about our shaky hand testers and our upcoming Residential to Ayutthaya.
In Literacy, we have continued to study a variety of biographical texts, examining features including time adverbials, use of tense and structure. Next week we will research and write our own biographies of the entrepreneur and Scientist Elon Musk – ensuring we incorporate our learning from previous weeks.
In Numeracy, we have revisited our learning of the 4 main operations. Our focus was on efficient written methods, for example column multiplication and short (bus stop) division. We also reviewed fractions of shape and simplifying fractions. Next week we will revise time, based on analysis of what our children would benefit from consolidating.
In Science we constructed circuits using bulbs, buzzers, motors and even a switch we created ourselves. Next week we will investigate electrical conductors and insulators. During Art, we designed shaky hand testers for an audience of Year 2 children. We practised drawing 3D shapes to assist this process. In Humanities we discussed and agreed rules to keep us safe when on residential. Children created excellent suggestions, and these will be reinforced when we explain the risk assessment to students prior to our visit.
Have a great weekend!
The Year 4 Team
Boxes – please could we ask children to bring in any boxes they may have to form the base of a shaky hand tester. Shoe boxes or similar would be ideal.
Thu 14th to Fri 15th – Residential Trip. Please refer to the letter sent out today on the Parent Portal for details about Thursday, Friday and how to contact us in case of an emergency. A kit list can be found on our Firefly page.
Thu 14th – ABRSM examinations. Good luck to the children taking their exams, and please be aware that the details for Thursday morning are slightly different, as per your letter. We look forward to them joining us in Ayutthaya!
