Children were excited today to meet their new teachers…it really doesn’t seem like a whole year since we first met them ourselves! Prior to today, children have been thinking back about their residential and continuing to build their exciting shaky hand testers.
In Literacy, we have linked back to our Journey to Jo’Burg diaries and used the features to write our own recounts about the residential visit. These recounts are in the process of being written up on to Book Creator and will hopefully be a great reminder of children’s first residential experience. These will be completed next week.
In Numeracy, we have revisited our learning of time and money (including decimals). Some classes have moved on to problem solving strategies such as using concrete objects or a diagram. Next week we will continue with problem solving.
In Science we carried out a fair test to see which materials conduct electricity and which are insulators. We learnt a valuable lesson about staying out of water if there is lightning nearby. During Art, we began building our shaky had testers, thinking about our choice of colours and design to appeal to our Year 2 audience. Once these are complete, we will take them to year 2 to try!
Have a great weekend!
