This week has been one of the busiest of the year so far, but also one of the most enjoyable!
We have kicked off our Literacy focus on persuasion with a video from an interesting character named ‘Harry Bloomfield.’ He explained that he has just won some money and really wants to travel to see the world. However, he is slightly scared of flying and a bit nervous about leaving the country! He gave the children a task to persuade him to leave his home comforts and travel somewhere exotic. From this, we have begun to develop our own travel agencies and will be looking at persuasive texts to help Mr. Bloomfield have his dream holiday.
Maths has been full of investigations and outside work, we measured out the real life dimensions of the Taj Mahal out on the playground and we were all amazed at how large it must be. We began to estimate different lengths and although it was hard at first, we got much better at visualising exactly what a metre looks like. We have been measuring our hands and using string to measure the length of Henna patterns. We are using this data to input in to Google Drive and eventually create shared graphs and files.
Tuesday was a truly wonderful day as we celebrated our India topic in style. The children looked fantastic and most importantly they all gave 100% effort in the various activities throughout the day. In Year 4 we have some superstar dancers, future Michelin starred chefs, Booker prize winning poets, cricketing champions and Turner prize winning Henna artists! It was a fantastic day and we are looking forward to reading all about the children’s own experiences in their recount homework this week (due in on 10/11/14).
Last but not least in an action packed week, we had the beautiful celebration of Loy Krathong on Thursday. It was lovely to see all the children in their Traditional Thai clothing and enjoying the spectacles of the day. The Thai department and Year 6 children did a great job with the assembly and each class got to make their own Krathong to take home. We hope you had a great evening however you celebrated.
Thank you for all your support this week and good luck to our footballers who are in Phuket and gymnasts in Singapore representing the school this weekend!
