Another week has flown by as we come to the end of a busy term. The children have worked incredibly hard and we are very proud of their efforts. On Tuesday, Year 5 enjoyed the Songkran celebrations by having a huge water fight during their P.E lessons. The Fun Run was also a great success with many children from Year 5 participating. Well done to all involved – it was a fantastic event!

In Literacy this week, the children planned and wrote their own suspense stories drawing on techniques and key features learnt throughout the course of the unit. Their finished stories were based on their shoebox crime scenes made for homework and included lots of information about what being a detective entails. The stories were a pleasure to read and we look forward to seeing them published in our upcoming Literacy lessons.

In Maths, children have continued to calculate fractions and have spent this week applying their learnt knowledge to solve tricky problems.

In art, the children have completed detailed 3D paintings. They showed fantastic skills when sketching objects of their choice, carefully considering the angle that their piece was posed at and how it affected their outcome.

Finally, Science with Mr. Nash was a particular highlight this week and a learning experience that the children are unlikely to forget. During this session, the children had the opportunity to observe Mr. Nash dissecting a heart and blowing air into the lungs to demonstrate the vital role they play in our circulatory system. The demonstration generated a real buzz of excitement and discussion amongst the children and made a very abstract concept much clearer to understand.

Have lovely break and Happy Songkran!

Many thanks

The Year 5 Team
