Term 3 Technology Integration JAWS

Topic: Technology Integration
Focus: Sharing models of good practice with a view to developing a working policy for Schools

The job-alike workshop was created as a format to allow group of like-minded professionals to create opportunities for curriculum-based CPD that relies on the skills and knowledge of the delegates themselves rather than relying on expensive key note speakers.
These workshops are an opportunity for you to share good practice and co-construct new knowledge with other FOBISIA teachers. This is a professional event. Registered participants are required to contribute to the agenda and to contribute to the presentations.

The impact of technology on education has been transformational in many of our Schools. With many seeking to fully leverage the potential of these tools there has arisen a need for teachers to explore how technology can be fully utilized to enhance and transform teaching and learning.
This JAWS will seek to work collaboratively to develop how Technology Integration actually looks in Schools. With a focus on the Why? How? And What?. Participants will work collaboratively to develop systems, strategies and policies which will work for their particular organisation.

FOBISIA Inaugural Teachers’ Conference 2015 – ‘Fit for Purpose?’ 17th – 18th October 2015

Dear Colleagues,

Are we fit for purpose; is our curricular fit for purpose; are our schools fit for purpose? We are pleased to invite you all to the inaugural FOBISIA Teachers’ Conference, ‘Fit for Purpose?’, at the JW Marriott Phuket, Thailand – 17th-18th October 2015.

The Conference will explore the themes of Technology, Career Advancement, Global Sustainability Issues and Job Alike Workshops (Primary, Secondary & Whole School), considering our ‘fitness for purpose’ within each theme. This will be a FOBISIA conference with a difference; not aimed at senior management, but at you, teachers. Throughout the programme there will be sessions on each theme, many of them run by you. Additionally, there will be great networking and social opportunities, and all beside a beautiful beach in a national park. If you wish to continue on to a half term holiday in Phuket, there will be special packages available.

Keynote Speaker
David Begbie of the Crossroads Foundation, a Hong Kong based non-profit organisation, dedicated to ‘connecting people in a broken world’, by acting as a crossroads for those who need help and those who can help. The Crossroads Foundation works through four avenues: Global Distribution – where need meets resources, Global Hand – partnering for a better world, Global X-Perience – stepping into another’s shoes and Global Handicrafts – fair trade for a fairer world.

David also leads the Global X-Perience. In ‘Struggle for Survival Simulations’, participants try to earn enough to survive and pay for rent, food, sanitation, medical needs and education. Those that can’t, end up in the hands of loan sharks. This simulates the pressures felt by many globally, and explores ways to break the web of poverty. Responses of Previous Participants; ‘Everyone should do this’, Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia. ‘Beautifully done’, Sir Richard Branson, Virgin. ‘A profound experience that reminds us of the plight of millions’, Ban Ki-moon, United Nations.

Student Data Conference

Getting the most out of your data:
An interactive workshop to support schools in maximising the value they gain from the use of assessments.

Bromsgrove International School Thailand, Bangkok
Saturday 14th March
Following on from the FOBISIA Student Data Conference, GL Education is offering an interactive workshop to support schools who wish to deepen their understanding of the practical application of data to support the concepts discussed during the conference.

Aims of the session:
 Understand what a cognitive abilities test measures, and how the data can be used across different roles within a school (SMT, middle leaders, classroom teachers)
 Review standardised attainment assessments and how these can measure progress and provide feedback to learners
 Explore how attainment and aptitude data can be used together to identify underachievement, informing individual learning and whole school policies
 Provide an opportunity to share good practice of assessment policies across international schools.
The workshop will be structured around the use and comparison of data from the following GL Education assessments:
 Cognitive Abilities Test 4 (CAT4)
 Progress in Maths (PIM)
 Progress in English (PIE)
 New Group Reading Test (NGRT)

Attendees are asked to bring a class set of student data for each of these assessments to work with during the session. Schools that do not currently use some or all of these assessments will be provided with a complimentary set of tests, with which to assess a single class of their students. These tests will need to be administered in February, prior to the workshop; enabling delegates to fully participate in the hands-on analysis.
Delegates new to GL Education’s assessments will also be invited to a short introductory webinar prior to running the tests so that they are familiar with the administration process and can carry out the trial in an accurate and effective manner.

The workshop is aimed at:
 Colleagues who are already using the assessments who wish to broaden and deepen their understanding and use of the data
 Colleagues not currently using the assessments who wish to explore the potential benefits of the data in the context of their school and students
