Bangkok Prep and the International School Eastern Seaboard are pleased to offer the first BTN conference focused on Assessment for Learning

There will be a wide range of workshops to enjoy and opportunities to network with staff from other schools.

Cost: 500 Baht, which includes drinks, snacks and lunch. An opportunity will be provided to socialize afterwards at a local pub. Drinks will be the responsibility of the participants.

Free Online AfL course with Dylan William

Free Online AfL course with Dylan William

Dylan William is running a free online 6 week course on Assessment for Learning in the STEM subjects, in partnership with the Univeristy of Leeds. You can register using the link below:

It starts on the 13th April.

This is one example of the many STEM related courses available on FutureLearn which is the UK hub for MOOCs (most of which are free) – in the science and maths section alone everything from a history of Ebola to the discovery of the Higgs Boson. There may be courses suitable for students, for instance.

The Bangkok Teachers Network, in association with Bangkok Prep and the International School Eastern Seaboard, presents an Assessment for Learning Conference, part of the BTN’s Saturday Session series.

We are currently looking for volunteers to lead workshops and to host job‐alike discussions.
Presenters will be entitled to attend the conference free of charge. For each session leader, schools will be guaranteed five places for additional conference delegates. Any further places will be allocated on a first‐come, first‐served basis.
Workshops will be scheduled to last 45 minutes. Presenters will have access to computers and interactive whiteboards along with any stationery required. Collaborative presentations are welcome, along with offers of longer workshops split into two parts.

We would like to invite all those with an interest in formative assessment to attend our ‘Assessment for Learning JAWs’. This workshop is an opportunity for both primary and secondary teachers to network with other FOBISIA members, to share good practice and to co-construct new knowledge.
All participants will be actively involved in planning the agenda and facilitating the sessions. Our intention is to use Dylan Wiliam’s five key strategies of formative assessment to help structure the two days. We will also spend some time discussing the changing role of assessment within the new National Curriculum.

We will also spend some time discussing the changing role of assessment within the new National Curriculum.

The Five Key Strategies of Formative Assessment:

1. Clarifying, sharing, and understanding goals for learning and criteria for success with learners.
2. Engineering effective classroom discussions, questions, activities, and tasks that elicit evidence of students’ learning
3 Providing feedback that moves learning forward.
4 Activating students as owners of their own learning.
5 Activating students as learning resources for one another.
