39 swimmers competed at the 2018 FOBISIA Swimming Championships hosted at Bangkok Patana over the weekend. This was the biggest hosting to date with over 600 swimmers from 24 FOBISIA schools from across the region including: India, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei. Shrewsbury finished an outstanding 6th place with 1286 points, this is even more phenomenal given that all senior swimmers returned from their residential week the day before the meet started.

Shrewsbury were able to enter a maximum of 3 swimmers per event with individual swimmers able to compete in a maximum of 6 events and 2 relays.

The FOBISIA swim meet closely replicates a national level meet with events including 400 IM, 400 & 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke and Breaststroke – events which are not normally available during international school meets.

29 Swimmers traveled to ISB last weekend to compete against 1000 other swimmers from across SE Asia in the annual ISB Swim Fest competition. Swimmers are permitted to compete in 4 individual events and 2 relay events. This year saw a move towards a more competitive event where for the senior swimmers 50m fly was replaced by the 100m fly, for many swimmers this was their first experience swimming the event in competition and everyone should be incredibly proud of themselves.

118 individual swims were completed of which 91 were personal best times, this is a 77 % personal best rate – this is a hugely successful meet against some of the most competitive swim teams in the region. The team went with a focus on the average points trophy (total number of swimmers / total number of points) Shrewsbury finished in 4th place with an average of 14.56 points and were the highest placed team with the smallest number of swimmers. Bangkok Patana won both the team trophy – 1748 points and with 98 swimmers scored an average 18.02 points per swimmer to also win the average points trophy.

A huge congratulations goes out to every swimmer who supported the team over the weekend, a special mention goes out to the following swimmers:

Prim C 8 & Under

25m Breaststroke 2nd Place

25m Freestyle 3rd Place

Genis 11 – 12 Years

2nd Place High Point Trophy –

50m Backstroke 1st Place

50m Backstroke 1st Place

50m Freestyle 2nd Place

Win 15 Year +

200 IM 2nd Place

Girls 11 – 12 Years Freestyle Relay – 2nd Place

Every personal best is a cause for celebration – this is the fastest that the swimmer has ever swum, the following swimmers all recorded personal best improvements over 5s! congratulations to:
