As we move closer to the end of the year, it has been so lovely for us all to reflect on how much the children have developed this year. They are more confident, resilient and courageous than ever.
This week, we have been busy with our new topic ‘Once Upon a Time’. We have immersed ourselves in all things ‘Fairy Tale’ and the classrooms are full of magic and fairy dust.
In Literacy, we have been learning and retelling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We made up our own actions and then created our own story maps to help us.
In Maths, we have been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s using money. The children have been making amounts in different ways and understanding the value of each coin as they do so.
In Topic, we have been learning about directions and using a compass, to put fairy tale characters in the correct places on a map.
In D and T, we compared and sorted a range of fabrics and threads. We used specific vocabulary to describe the texture of each one.
We have been budding gardeners this week. We all planted different types of seeds and predicted which one will grow the tallest. We have diaries to record what we observe, how tall the plants are and what we used to help it grow.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
The Year 1 Team.
