Dear Parents,

Here some links to YouTube dance and yoga videos for the children sent by Ms Alys in PE. As the children have to be inside due to pollution, it would be great if they could still be active!

Year 1

Dear Parents,

As school is closed today, here are some activities for your children to work on at home.

Reading:

  • Children to read their guided reading books and try to say as many words as they can without sounding out. They can also have a go at reading the green and red words at the front of book as quickly as they can!
  • Look at the questions at the back of the book and ask the children to answer them. They will need to look back at the book to find the answers.
  • Complete one of the ‘Reading Journal’ activities.

Writing:

  • Write a sentence about what they did at the weekend. Try and encourage the children to use a full stop, finger spaces or capital letters.

Maths:

  • Practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Chanting this with your children would be helpful. Here are some YouTube videos we use in school.

Thai:

  • Children to read their Thai guided reading book, complete a Thai activity from the yellow book and choose an activity from the Home Learning grid.

Dear Parents,

Another positive week of learning this week in Year 1. We have been really enjoying our Helicopter Stories. The children have loved creating very imaginative stories and acting them out as a class.

In Maths, we have been counting to 50. We have been counting in 10s and finding the tens and ones in a number.

In English, we have been continuing our work linked to the story Lila and the secret of rain. The children have been retelling the story and ordering pictures in pairs. We have been thinking of different ways we can start the sentences when retelling the story.

In Topic, the children have enjoyed finding African countries on a map. They have also been looking at the different habitats found in Africa and thinking about which animals can be found in each one. We have then compared different parts of Africa to here in Bangkok.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

The year 1 team.

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!

We hope you have all had an enjoyable holiday. The children have had a lovely first week back at school and are excited to learn lots about our new topic Africa in the term ahead.

In Maths, we have been counting forwards and backwards to 50 and learning about how many tens and ones there are in each number. We have also been completing number sequences and finding missing numbers to 50.

In English, we have started reading our class story Lila and the Secret of Rain which is set in a Kenyan village in Africa. We have discussed the different feelings shown by the main character and written about our favourite parts of the story.

In Topic, we have discussed what we know about Africa already and what we would like to find out later on in the topic.

  Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team.
