BISAC Trials will conclude tomorrow night (Tuesday).

Warm up will begin at 2.40pm with the first race – U8 25m Backstroke starting promptly at 3pm.

We hope that the event will be finished by 4.30pm. We have a team of time keepers joining us to help keep the meet running to schedule. Please arrive promptly to poolside. All junior swimmers must register in the canteen.

Previously registered swimmers who wish to be considered for the BISAC team are required to attend this final trial. In fairness to all swimmers only times recorded during the trials will be considered for selection. Please do not worry if your time is slower during the trials – this time will only be considered for selection. For BISAC your current personal best time will be used.

Meet Mobile will not be available for this second session, as all schools are busy selecting their teams, we want to keep our team a secret from all the other schools for as long as possible. Therefore results will only be published on the swimming notice boards.

If you would like to learn more about how the timing system works at a swim meet, a brief guide is located here. If you are interested in being more involved with the swim team and would like to become a time keeper for time trials please see Mrs Gill in the Sports and Activities Office.

BISAC Swim trials this evening will be live on MEET MOBILE – please search BISAC Trials

Dear Parents and Swimmers

Earlier this week you should have received a message via parent portal that the BISAC swim trials have been postponed until Thursday 3rd March.

All swimmers who wish to represent Shrewsbury at the upcoming BISAC swimming championships (26th & 27th March) are required to attend these trials. We actively encourage all swimmers to take part, should you not be successful in securing a place on the team, these trials provide a opportunity for you to improve your current personal best times.

Although we can only take the fastest three swimmers in each event, due to the number of available events and that juniors may only compete in four events, it is often necessary to select swimmer number four, five or six in some events. Please remember “you have to be in it, to win it!”.

Registration will take place on poolside between 2.40 – 3pm. Please do not be late.

If you have any questions regarding the event please do not hesitate to contact me in the Sports and Activities Office.

Best Wishes

Mrs Gill

17 swimmers traveled to Phuket on Thursday for the 2nd hosting of the FOBISIA Swimming Championships. The swimmers competed against 500 swimmers  from 17 schools across the FOBISIA network over three long and hot days.

Junior swimmers were able to compete in six events and two relays while senior swimmers could compete in eight events and three relays. In a similar format to last year, senior swimmers had the exciting opportunity to swim in both heats and finals.

Every swimmer scored valuable points and came away with at least one ribbon or medal.

IMG_0651

There were outstanding performances in the relays where swimmers often swan up into the next age group. In the 10 year old girls relay team: Prim P (year 5, 9 years old) Amelia (year 5, 9 years old), Genis (Year 6, 10 years old), Kate (Year 6, 10 years old) won the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay.

In the girls 11 year old 4 x 50m Freestyle relay; Remie, Gam, Sarah and Thane placed a close 2nd place.

IMG_0630

Swimming up 3 age groups into the 13-14 year old relay Pon from Year 7 assisted Matthew P, Matthew W and Peem to 2nd place in 4 x 50m relay and 3rd place in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay. Loogcluin Year 5 swim up on Sunday to assist the boys to a closely fought 4th place in the 4x50m medley relay.

IMG_0634

While the girls; Alex, Rena, Prim B and Gaby had a very close race in the 13-14 years 4x50m and 4x100m freestyle to place 5th and 4th respectively.

In their individual events both Prim P and Genis placed 3rd overall in their age groups, congratulations girls this is a superb achievement.

IMG_0649

Matthew P, came 2nd in the boys 12 year old 100m freestyle. Peem, placed 3rd in the boys 13-14 years 200m freestyle.  Rena, undertook a demanding program of events, with three back to back finals on the first day, narrowly missing out on a medal in the finals of the girls 13-14m 200m IM, 200m freestyle and 100m Butterfly finals. Celebrating her birthday and therefore swimming up into the next age group Alex swam two brilliant races in both the 50 and 100m backstroke. Prim B together with Matthew P made at least one final on each day of competition, against such a strong competitive field this was an amazing achievement. Swimming outside of their comfort zone Peem and Matthew W undertook both the 400 IM and 400 freestyle, these are events Shrewsbury would love to see more swimmers undertaking.
