44 swimmers represented Shrewsbury International School, Bangkok, at the three day FOBISIA swimming championships hosted by Bangkok Prep last weekend. 23 schools and over 600 swimmers from across Asia attended the event.

Swimmers could compete in a maximum of 6 events over the weekend, Shrewsbury finished in 5th place with a total of 835 points. The boys team finished 3rd overall and the girls team finished 9th.

For many swimmers this was their first experience at racing longer events  in a 50m pool such as 200m butterfly and 400IM, their determination in these events contributed to the overall success of the team.

While it is easy to measure the success of a team by the number of medals won or points scored, the true success of a team comes in what can not be measured – the team spirit, the willingness to put your team first, going the extra mile for your team, racing an event you feel is not your best event but you know that it will help your team score vital points, and mostly getting out of the water after your race knowing you gave your very best effort.

This weekend I did not see 44 individuals, I saw a team of swimmers working together to motivate and encourage each other. A team going the extra mile together. Swimmers who had never swum in a 50m pool before racing like this was their home pool. I have never been more proud of our team than watching them swim this weekend.

In total 44 swimmers competed in 208 individual events and 14 relays, recording 84 first time 50m pool (long course) competitive swims in a Shrewsbury swim suit and 102 new personal best times.

Aquatics Team

60 swimmers traveled to ISB this weekend to compete in the annual ISB SwimFest. The meet this year took a team focus with age group team awards. Swimmers were each able to compete in a maximum of 4 events and 2 relays. 166 new personal best times were recorded from 209 individual swims – this is staggering 79% personal best improvement rate. Congratulations to all swimmers.

As your personal best becomes faster the amount you improve by decreases, and at some swim meets you may not always see an improvement – when this happens it is important to how close you are swimming to your personal best. Seniors may often only improve by 0.01 seconds and this is a fabulous achievement, to see so many seniors improving by over 4 seconds over 100m is a reflection of the hard work they have been putting into their training.

Please see below for the team results, these are superb given the numbers of swimmers we had in each age group – just 4 swimmers (only 2 swimming on Sunday due to the Geography field trip) in 15+ boys came an amazing 5th place. Our 11-12 girls and boys team looks incredibly strong with them placing 5th and 4th respectively. For the team as whole to come 7th against many larger schools is a reflection on just how hard every single swimmer is working during training. We are incredibly proud of your achievements.
