Michael Lawrence is our Author of the Month for June. Here is some information about him.

Michael Lawrence is the talented and fascinating author of books for children and young adults. He’s originally trained as a graphic designer and photographer, but subsequently became a television script reader, a press officer, an art and antiques dealer, a painter and sculptor, and several other things he would rather not talk about. He is now the full time author of picture books and older fiction such as the popular A Jiggy McCue Story series.

Never make someone a priority when all you are to them is an option.

2 Fast 2 Furious Swim Meet Program

Warm up begins at 8am.

If you are taking the bus it will leave at 7.30am prompt.

Shrewsbury Storm temporary tattoos will be available at 10thb each.

On Thursday May 22nd the swimmers undertook a 200m kick and swim test, where the goal was to equal or better their swim time when kicking.

Congratulations to Win and Nana for recording the fastest 200m Freestyle Kick and Swim times.

Mark C recorded the closest 200m freestyle kick time to his swim time.

Well done to everyone who took part.

Shrewsbury International School will host the first ever FOBISIA Age Group Long Course Swimming Championships, January 23rd – 25th 2015. Please save this date in your diary.

 

Held over three days, the event will consist of heat and finals. Swimmers will compete in their age groups (age on midnight Monday 26th January).

 

  • Age Group Categories:

Girls – 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 years

Boys – 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 years

Please see below for the final details of the 2 Fast 2 Furious swim meet on Saturday.

 

The warm up will begin at 8am on Saturday. If you are making your own way directly to Harrow International School please aim to arrive no later than 8am.

If you are taking the school bus, the bus will leave from school at 7.30am prompt.

 

All swimmers should wear the green and gold swim suit and white swim hat with dark green Shrewsbury (available in the school shop). Swimmers should bring with them sun screen, a hat, t shirt for when they are not swimming and a water bottle to keep hydrated.

It is expected the meet will conclude at 1pm.

 

 

Events:

All swimmers may swim 3 individual events and 2 relays (the swim coaches will confirm the relay orders on Saturday morning)

Prizes:

Heat winner ribbons and medals for 1st 2nd& 3rd overall.

Dear Swimmers and Parents.

 

The final swim meet of the year originally scheduled for June 14th has been moved to the week of June 2nd  – 5th.

 

The meet will for the first time use the FINA points system, where swimmers score points for the speed of their swim.

 

Swimmers will need to attend all three sessions in order to gain maximum points.

 

Monday June 2nd – Best 50m event & 200m Freestyle (swimmers will swim 50m on all four strokes, with the best result used for their final points total).

Tuesday June 3rd – 100m Form Events (not freestyle)

Thursday 5th June – 100 & 200 IM

 

Points are awarded using the FINA points system (FINA points rank from 1 – 1100) this system is used worldwide to rank swimmers. An app can be downloaded from the google play store to help you calculate your points: FINA App

 

To understand more how the points are calculated please follow this link from the FINA website: FINA points calculation. FINA points are automatically calculated by the software program used to operate all swimming meets and can be followed on the Meet Mobile App on your mobile device.

 

Swimmers will compete in the following age groups:

Under 7’s

8 Years

9 Years

10 Years

11 Years

12 Years

13 Years

14 Years

15 Years +

 

Age will be taken on the last day of this school year – Sunday August 24th.

 

All squad swimmers will automatically be added to this swim meet, if anyone from the stroke development program wishes to take part, please see Mrs Gill in the sports and activities office before Friday May 30th.

 

Results from this meet will help to place swimmers into the correct squad in September 2014.
