Please see below an email send from Paul Hodgkinson the Director of Sport at NIST regarding the potential political situation this weekend:

Dear All,

NIST is looking forward to hosting the BISAC Swimming Championships this weekend.

As a point of reference the swim meet director will be Dr. Tony Amrish. There will also be an army of officials, parent helpers and NIST staff helping to make things go as smoothly as possible.

As per previous communication we have the goggle web site with all relevant information.

https://sites.google.com/a/nist.ac.th/bisac-swimming-2014

There are some changes to the psyche sheets. You will receive the final version later tonight (Weds)

There will be back up Event Booklets for your coaches and a limited number for parents.

Just a reminder on the coaches meeting, at an event as busy as this one it is important at least one representative from each competing school is present.

Please also remember to bring back trophies if you have previously won them, and give to Tony at the coaches meeting.

Parent Conduct – we are expecting lots of excited parents but would please ask you to brief them on polite protocol around the pool deck and listening to instructions given by our staff.

Update on the Security Situation.

Please be informed that on Sat 29th March from 09:30 am onward, PDRC Protest Group will be marching along the following route.

  1. Lumpini Park
  2. Wireless Road
  3. Ploenchit Road
  4. Petchaburi Road
  5. Asoke Montri Road
  6. Terminal 21 (Possible target for the group to break for lunch)
  7. Sukhumvit Road (Possible target for the protest group to break for lunch)
  8. Chidlom Road (Possible target for the protest group to break for lunch)
  9. Rajadamri Road (Possible target for the protest group to break for lunch)
  10. Lumpini Park

They will pass the NIST area around 12:00 – 14:00 hrs.  We have received no indication of any violence in our area but would recommend to avoid the route during their marching period.

This should have no impact on the swimming event as teams will arrive before 8am and leave after 5pm. In our experience so far with the protests traffic is only blocked up in the times the marches are in our area.

Kind regards,

Paul Hodgkinson

The BISAC ruling for the junior swim meet was changed after the 2013 championships. To allow the junior swimmers to perform at their best, collectively within BISAC it was felt that four individual entries would be better for the junior swimmers, with a maximum of three swimmers per event. This is the reasoning behind allowing the junior swimmers to select only four events.

Unfortunately due to a miscommunication Shrewsbury was the only school who followed this new ruling, it was not until the program was made available to the Aquatic Directors on Monday that I became aware only Shrewsbury had followed this new ruling.

A solution was reached whereby Shrewsbury would be permitted to change the entries submitted allowing swimmers to compete in a maximum of 6 individual events. Unfortunately this means for some swimmers there will be more than the permitted three swimmers per event. Many swimmers have trained exceptionally hard for what will be their first BISAC, all swimmers who were initially entered into the BISAC championships may still participate in the swim meet. As only three swimmers may score points for the school, some swimmers will be an exhibition swimmer. An exhibition swimmer is unable to score points or receive a medal. The swimmers who will score points are those who placed 1st – 3rd in the BISAC selections swim meet in March. In some cases where the swim placed 1st – 3rd already has 6 selected events or did not want to select this event the swimmer placed 4th or 5th may be the points scoring swimmer.

I sincerely apologise for this occurrence and can assure you I tried everything possible to resolve the situation prior to the parents meeting yesterday and afterwards.

I hope any swimmer who has an exhibition event will still wish to compete in this event.  The opportunity to still compete at this level provides excellent experience at a highly competitive swim meet and any personal bests recorded can still be used to progress to the next squad.

All swimmers who now have an exhibition event have been personally contacted via email.

Dear Parents and Swimmers

To ensure all BISAC swimmers have adequate rest before their big day, swimming for anyone involved in BISAC at the weekend (senior or junior) will finish at 3.30pm on Friday. Swimming for NON BISAC swimmers will continue until as normal.

There will be no swimming on Monday March 31st due to the  Primary FOBISIA event selection swim time trials. All Primary FOBISIA participants are expected to attend.

On Saturday (March 22nd) Shrewsbury sent a select team of 12 swimmers to the Marlins Mayhem swim meet at St Andrews.

003

Competing against St Andrews, Bangkok Prep, Concordian International School and ISB,  Shrewbury took home three trophies:

Proud L –  Overall Winner Under 8 Girls

IMG_0510

Prim B – Runner Up 9 – 10 Years Girls

046

Overall Champions – Shrewsbury

IMG_0519

All swimmers performed exceptionally at the meet by winning either a heat winner ribbon or a 1-3 place medal.

Every swim recorded a personal best time! This was a truly exceptional performance, given the 2 hours break for the storm. This dedication to the team, meant that Shrewsbury scored the highest number of points per swimmer to win the overall trophy.

Every member of the team should be extremely proud of their performance, behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the swim meet.

CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE

This infographic shows what librarians have long known–that good readers make great students!

Fully Booked 2014 has just come to a close. It was an action-packed week, featuring events for students from EY1 through to Y13.

The week started off with a Senior School costume day and Fully Booked Assembly. Molly and Valentine served as MCs, introducing a poetry performance from 7HA, videos from 8PD, and a lovely essay by Oliver Estridge (Y10). Mr Kirk, Ms Conger, and Ms Dakin served as judges for the hotly contested costume competition. Seniors were dismissed from the assembly to Share a Book You Love, where they had a chance to read some of their favourite stories to an appreciative audience of Junior School students.

Monday also saw the first day of events in the Storytelling Tent. At break, Junior Students were treated to stories by some of their teachers, while at lunch, they were invited to listen to readings and original stories from Senior School students as part of the House Storytelling Competition.

Each morning during registration, forms in the Senior School were treated to poetry readings by Senior School faculty. Mr Holroyd also participated, reading a Seamus Heaney poem to 10DC.

Each day in the library, Junior School students participated in a variety of reading-themed activities. They were invited to illustrate poems, draw their favourite book characters, complete a library scavenger hunt, guess how many books were in the library, and complete origami designs. They could also make short videos about their favourite books in a special library photo booth.

Students all across the school were invited to participate in the annual bookmark design competition. In the end, Mono (2SD), Namwoon (4LM), and Mod (9SM) were chosen as the winners. Their beautiful artwork is in the process of being turned into bookmarks for the whole school to enjoy.

Y4, led by Ms Dusting, enjoyed bedtime stories on Thursday afternoon, complete with milk and cookies and a visit from Ms Weston and Ms Beeman.

The week came to a close with the famous Junior School Character Parade and Fully Booked Assembly. Junior School teachers and students really outdid themselves this year, coming dressed in a variety of spectacular costumes. At the end of the day, Mr Holroyd shared a story in the library with some luck Pre-Prep students. It was a busy, lovely, book-filled week. The library staff are already looking forward to Fully Booked 2015!
